There was no discussion on the recommendation, which vas made by the joint committee. The council decided to accept tbc offer of Messrs. G. C. Munns and JS. Fletcher, M.P.’s, to wait on the bocal Government Loans Board with a request to reconsider its decision not t® sanction tho proposed unemployment loan of <£5,000, and also to arrange, u necessary, for a delegation from the council to interview the Cabinet Unemployed Sub-Committee. If necessary, the Mayor, Mr. L. E. Rhodes, and Mr. H. L. Kayes, will go to Wellington to interview the Prime MinisterThe building inspector reported tha 16 permits to the value of £5,180 h* been issued c uring the three weekended December 11. _ The following allocations were of six days for street collections within the borough:—St. John Ambulanc* Association. Hospital Auxiliary, Society for the Health of Women an® Children, Community Sunshine Aw?* ciation; one day for both tho Victoria [ I-eague and the Navy League, and on day for both the Society for the Protection of Women and Children ana the Society for the Prevention 01 Cruelty to Animals.
