WOMEN’S INSTITUTES

HOBSONVILLE BRANCH The first annual meeting of the Hob* sonville Women’s Institute was held in the Public Hall recently. The pres U dent, Mrs. Parry, occupied the chair; The annual report and financial statement were submitted and approved. The following were elected to tho new committee: —Mrs. W. Ocklestou, president; Mrs. Swenson, Mrs. 'WiU liams and Mrs. Barnsby, and Mrs. Parry, secretary. After some competitions and tea, ad enjoyable afternoon was brought a close. BIRKDALE BRANCH The annual meeting- of the Birk. dale Women’s Institute was held in tb<| Public Hall, Mrs. Wettenhall presiding. The report and financial statement were read and adopted. In her address Mrs. Wettenhall expressed her pleasure at the way in which the institute had worked during the year, and hoped it would continue to grow. She also gave a brief account of ter visit to some of the Bay of Plenty institutes. The following were elected officers and committee members:— Mrs. Gilpin, president; Mrs. Bartleet, Mrs. Lee and Mrs. Wettenhall. vicepresidents; Mrs. Cain, Mrs. Culp&n, Mrs. Dickson, Mrs. Denver, Mrs Hewson, Mrs. Johnson, Mrs. Kay, Mrs. Thomas and Mrs. Williams, committee; Miss Wood, secretary; Mrs* Hughes, treasurer. A vote of thar.ka was passed to the retiring president, Mrs. WettenhaJl. and to Miss Trevithick and Miss P. Hayman, who acted as tellers.
