SHOPKEEPERS DEFRAUDED DISOWNED BY RELATIVE From Our Own Correspondent " HAMILTON, Today. Although possessing an angelic countenance, Thomas Hepburn Thompson, a young immigrant of IS, is not so simple as he looks. He pleaded guilty to eight charges of issuing valueless cheques, involving £sl, in th© Police Court today. A relative with whom defendant stayed in Auckland was disgusted with Thompson’s career of crime and disowned him. Last April he was sentenced to three months’ gaol for theft at Wanganui. He had hardly been released from gaol when he started to issue valueless cheques and imposed on shopkeepers at New Plymouth, Ts Kuiti, Hamilton and Ngaruawahia. Accused who, when arrested, showed the detective a diary with accounts of his misdeeds, was committed to Borstal for a period not exceeding two years.
