OVER STEEP BANK

FATHER AND SON’S CLOSE CALL MOTOR-CAR SOMERSAULTS From Our Own Correspondent WHANGAREI, Today. Two Whangarei men had a narrow escape from serious injury yesterday afternoon, when a car driven by Mr. W. Calder, junr., and accompanied by his father, Mr. W. Calder, went over a steep bank near Broadwood. 20 miles south of Kaitaia, and lodged against a log 20 feet below. But for the log the car would have fallen another 50 feet down an almost perpendicular bank. The car turned a complete somersault in the fall, but both occupants remained in the car. Mr. Calder, junr.. escaped injury, but his father received a severe cut on the forehead. The-car was ascending a hill and left the road at a bad bend, when passing another car.
