At its monthly meeting, the Taumarunui Hospital Board received from Dr. T. H. Valintine, Director-General of Health, final recommendations in connection with the proposed isolation block at the public hospital. It was decided to approve the suggestions of Dr. Shore, Director of Hospitals, to the effect that the new -ward be erected in a site contiguous to the present hospital, allowing the service of the institution to deal with the extension. The board’s architect, Mr. A. S. Laird, is preparing plans for the building. * * * The Taumarunui County Council has been advised by the Taranaki Land Board that a royalty of 4d a cubic yard would be payable by the county to the Receiver of Land Revenue for metal removed from the pit in the Piopiotea West survey district. The council is communicating with the board asking for a reduction of the royalty if possible, m * * A meeting of the Otangiwai Boxing Day Sports-Picnic Committee finally revised an excellent programme, to which several attractive items have been added. Two Herbert Smith Trust Cups, one for boys and one for girls, will be competed for as points prizes in the young people’s section. * * * In connection wiht the Ohura County Council’s request for a railway bridge across the line at the north end of Ongarue township, the Railway Department has refused to grant the request, but expressed itself as willing to have a level-crossing opened there if the local residents wished it. The council has refused to sanction this suggestion, on the grounds that it considered there was no necessity for such a crossing. * * * The following officers were elected at the annual meeting of the Ongarue Axemen’s and Athletic Sports Club: Patrons, Mr. R. W. Smith and Mr. J. C. Rolleston; president, Mr. A. IT. Delaney; vice-presidents, Messrs. E. Coogan, C. R. Sneddon, J. Caird, F. J. S. Miller; secretary and treasurer, Air. A. Reid; management committee, Messrs. D. J. Gardiner, D. J. McCracken, N. A. Prussing, M. P. Meehan. J. Dempsey, and officers ex-officio; auditor, Air. T. Taylor.
