NOT FOR THE CLASSICS Hampton Park has improved in appearance as the result of his effort at Takapuna—a winning one—and his chance of capturing a stake at the Impending Ellerslie carnival is admittedly rosy, although he will be meeting juveniles of better class than he defeated at the Shore. Yet it was the chestnut’s first at* tempt and, allowing for his inexperience and the fact that F. Gilchrist had not keyed him up for that particular race, his performance was an excellent one. The connections of the Australianbred youngster have forfeited all classic engagements for the present, and until Hampton Park shows he is on a plane with the best in the land he will race only in handicaps.
