lengths clear of the remainder, with the favourite, Catonian, well out of Catonian had been kicked in the shoulder when Wako King came on to him at the second ierce, and that explains why the favourite never was in the hunt afterward. Archeen left Taumai to it a furlong and a-half from home and won easily in fast time. From the time point of view it was an outstanding performance. But oh! those fences! They were not really fences at all, for they had a most pronounced lean, all ready to fall over with a gust of wind. Another thing in favour of the visiting horses was that the schooling fences on the inside for local jumpers had the grass on the take-off side cut for a short distance, but otherwise the grass was above the knees. Small wonder that the local contestants had had little opportunities for schooling under reasonable conditions. Mashoor finished strongly, and appears to be improving. Most of the other runners were tangled by the pace set. _
