I The club, during the past two or three years, has spent a lot of money | on improvements to its course, and it ; is now in excellent order for the I annual meeting, which is now a little ! over three weeks off, so that owners j of good horses have nothing to fear I on the score of the condition of the j turf. The schedule for each day’s racing is such as should make an effective appeal. Of course on the opening day the principal event is the-Gold-fields Cup, carrying £3OO in stake money, of which the winner receives £225. The distance is a mile and a-quarter. Next best in value is the open sprint, the Flying Handicap, of £l5O, six furlongs. 'The main races on the second day are the Thames Plate, of £270, of which the winner’s share is £ISS and a canteen of cutlery presented by Miss Twohill; one mile; and the President’s Handicap, of £135, six furlongs. The complete programme is as follows: FIRST DAY Tapu Hand cap, of £IOO (winner to receive £75); six furlongs. For maidens at time of entry. Borough High-Weight Handicap, of £llO (winner £BS), one mile. For hacks and jumpers. Puriri Handicap, of £IOO (winner £75), six furlongs. For horses that have never won a flat race of the value of £IOO to the winner. Goldfields Cup Handicap, of £3OO (winner £225), one and a-quarte miles. Parawai Hack Handicap, of £IOO (winner £75), seven furlongs. Flying Handicap, of £l5O (winner £115), six furlongs. Waitakaruru Hack Handicap, of £l2O (winner £9O), one mile. Hauraki Plains Handicap, of £l3O (winner £100). seven furlongs. SECOND DAY Kopu Handicap, of £IOO (winner £75), six furlongs. For maidens at time of starting.
