MR. J. H. HENWOOD Mr. John Henry lienwood, who died at New Plymouth on Sunday at the age of 84, was born in New Plymouth and although very young took an active part in the Maori Wars, serving with the militia and volunteer qprps, and afterward engaging in pioneering. In 1880 he took up farming in the Eltham district, and was a director of the Eltham Co-operative Dairy Company. Mr. Henwood is survived by two sons and two daughters. MR. THOMAS YOUNG The death has occurred of Mr. Thomas Young, an old settler of the Franklin district, at the age of 75 years. He came to New Zealand with his parents in the ship African in 1860. His father purchased a block of land lying betvveen Pukekohe East and Buckland. and divided it among his sons. Later he resided at Mauku. He is survived by his wife, five sons— Messrs. Thomas Young, Onehunga. William, Edward, Alfred and George Voung, Auckland—and one daughter, Mrs. F. Appleby, Glenbrook. MRS. M. D. MESTON Mrs. Mary Dalgarno Meston, wife of Mr. James Meston, of Northcote, who has died at the age of S 6, had been a resident of that district for about eight years. Married on April 10, 1808, in Aberdeen, Scotland, the couple celebrated their diamond wedding la.-<t year. Mrs. Meston is survived by her husband, four sons, Mr. W. P. Meston, Perth, West Australia, Mr. G. C. Meston, of Waitara, Mr. H. J. Meston, of Inglewood, Mr. A., Y. O. Meston, of Dunedin, and two daughters, Mrs. E. D. Richardson and Miss J. M. Meston, of Northcote. MRS. E. S. GRUNDY The death of Mrs. Edith Sophia Grundy has occurred at her late residence, 363 Great North Road, New Lynn, at the age of 54 years. She is survived by her husband, Mr. S. H. Grundy, and son, Mr. James »A. Grundy. Mrs. Grundy came to New Zealand from South Africa 14 years ago. She was an ardent worker for the Anglican Church, the Happy Hour Class, Avondale Mothers’ Union, and a staunch member of the Salvation Army Home League, and Rebedca Lodge. Mrs. Grundy was buried yesterday in the Anglican Cemetery, Rosebank Road, Avondale. The Rev. H. Jecks conducted the burial service. MR. H. G. BROWNE The death of Mr. Henry George Browne, of Clermont, Clevedon, has occurred at the age of 68. Son of Mr. F. H. Browne, one of the first pioneers of the Wairoa district, Mr. Browne was educated at the Parnell Grammar School and went into business as an orchardist in the Clevedon district. He was actively interested in the work of the Anglican Church, of which he was a layreader and vestryman. Mr. Browne is survived by his wife, two sons, Mr. L. H. Browne and Mr. A. R. Browne, of Clevedon, and four daughters, Mrs. P. Furley, of Clevedon, Miss M. Browne, of Auckland, and Missed K. Browne and D. Browne, of Cleyedon.
