MORE ORAKEI SECTIONS

NINE SOLD AT AUCTION HIGHEST PRICE £1,425 Nine more of the residential sites in the Orakei garden suburb were sold by public auction in the Town Hall last evening. The highest price paid was for a section of 37 perches fronting Paritai Drive and overlooking the new waterfronc road, which brought £1,425, while the lowest was £3OO for a section of 36 perches situated midway along Okahu Street, on the Okahu Bay side. After the sale, Mr. David Smith, sec- i retar.v to the Lands Board and who, as j auctioneer, conducted the sale for the j North Auckland District Lands and Survey Office, said that it was not anticipated that any of the lower-priced sections would be sold owing to the fact that at present no access, in the form of bus or other transport services, had been promised. It was surprising, however, that the sections be- ; low the Coats’ subdivision did not receive more support, as these were all good and were expected to induce quick bidding. The average price Tor the nine sections disposed of last evening was £ 884 10s, and for the five sold at Hobson Point £1,242. A section 'on the northern corner of The Drive and Tuhaere Street, which was the first put up last evening, but passed at £950, was sold this mprning at £l,lOO, thus making 10 sections in all at an average of £906. The upset price of the 48 sections offered was £27,325, so that the sale is considered to be most successful. Those not disposed of, either failed to attract bids or failed the reach the upset price and were passed in. There was an apparent demand for sections commanding a good view of the harbour, and consequently interest was keenest in the waterfront sites on Paritai Drive at Hobson Point. Bidding was slow at first, but when the first section, which was purchased this morning, was passed in and the next one at £1,050, bidding livened up considerably and the next three lots which began at £950. £9OO and £9OO respectively, sold readily at the respective prices of £1,300, £l,lOO and £1,425. The second section passed was then reoffered and was knocked down at £1,150. The first was also put up again, but was passed in. There were 15 sections available in this group, but the only other one to sell was one on the opposite corner which went for £1,235.

Eighteen lots in Paritai Drive and Okahu Street overlooking Okahu Bay, were put up, but only four were sold. In Paritai Drive at the head of Okahu Street, one was knocked down for £525, while a section adjoining sold at the same price. The other two, situated in Okahu Street, were sold for £4OO and £3OO respectively. Fifteen sites in Ngaiwi Street and between Ngaio Street and Awarua Crescent, which were expected to sell well, were all passed in. DETAILS OF SALES
