FIRE INSURANCE RISKS

RATES MAY INCREASE IN DUNEDIN WATER SUPPLY BLAMED From, Our Own Correspondent DUNEDIN, Today. Fire underwriters in Dunedin have decided that unless the City Council increases the efficiency of the water supply within a reasonable time the rates on all fire insurance risks in the city will be increased. This is the result of a. statement from Wellington that the rates throughout New Zealand are to be readjusted on risks in which the losses have been abnormal during the last 20 years. "The decision to increase the rates is official,” said a leading insurance company manager, “but nothing will be done until such time as the corporation has been given an opportunity of improving the water supply. If that is not done within reasonable time the rates for the whole city will go up.”
