A NEW ZEALAND RECORD
£500,000 BUTTER SHIPMENT FOR CANADA AUCKLAND MERCHANTS’ ENTERPRISE Auckland butter to the value of slightly over half a million sterling. representing the biggest consignment to leave this port in the one bottom, will be shipped on the Port Hardy, which arrives in Auckland from the Coast tonight. The shipment will also be a New Zealand record, the previous biggest shipment, comprising approximately 131,000 tons, leaving on the Gallic about two years ago. Approximately 120,000 cases of this week’s shipment of butter goes to Halifax for distribution throughout Eastern Canada. The balance,’ with the exception of a small parcel for the West Indies, goes on to London. Utterances at recent public meetings relative to the possibilities of developing new* markets overseas for New Zealand produce have tended to give rise to the view that Auckland businessmen are dead to their opportunities. Recent export figures prove this to be incorrect. There will be few parts of the East or Canada this season where New Zealand dairy produce, particularly that of the Waikato, will not be available.
