DEATH OF AN ADMIRAL
LATE SIR HENRY JACKSON PRAISED DISTINGUISHED SCIENTIST British Official "Wireless Reed. noon. RUGBY, Sunday. The death has occurred of Admiral of the Fleet Sir Henry Jackson, who was First Sea Lord during the war, aged 74. The King has sent a message to his widow, expressing sympathy, and adding:—“Sir Henry Jackson will be remembered, not only for his distinguished service in the Navy, but also for his devotion to the cause of research as a member of the Royal Society.” In Press tributes, the admiral is described as having been the greatest scientific mind in the modern navy. He was made a Fellow of the Royal Society for his researches in electrical physics. He was also a member of the Institution of Electrical Engineers, and the Institution of Naval Architects, and was honoured by many leading societies. As a scientist, his services to the Navy were invaluable. He was one of the pioneers of wireless telegraphy.
