Auckland Man Killed In Motor-Car Capsize
FOUR OTHERS HURT FALL OVER BANK From Our Own Correspondent WHANGAREI, Today. As a result of a car capsizing at Maungaturoto on Saturday evening, two men were admitted to the Whangarei Hospital, and one died en route. Those concerned were: KILLED Lionel Hardy, 24, car attendant employed by the New Zealand Railways at Auckland. INJURED Jack Dodds, severe scalp wound. Alfred George King, cook, refreshment department, New Zealand Railways. Other occupants of the car, Mr. Peacock and Mr. Williams, both escaped serious injury. The car was proceeding down hill toward the Maungaturoto Hotel when /or some unaccountable reason the car left the road and went over a bank, turning over several times. Mr. Peacock summoned help, and Dr. Dawson, of Paparoa, arrived shortly after. He ordered Messrs. Dodds, Hardy and King to the hospital, and on arrival at the Whangarei Hospital Mr. Hardy was found to have died en route. Messrs. Dodds and King are reported to be progressing favourably today. An inquest was opened yesterday concerning Mr. Hardy’s death, and adjourned, after evidence of identification and medical evidence had been taken.
