FAREWELL TO MISSIONER
THE REV. C. CHANDLER TO LEAVE FOR SYDNEY The Rev. Charles Chandler, assistant City Missioner, who is leaving for Sydney this week, gave h.s farewell address in the Lewis Eady Hall last evening before a very large congregation. “I have received a call to a special sphere of work in Sydney,” said Mr. Chandler. “The call did not come from any church or section of people, but was an inward urge to associate myself very definitely with the vast masses of working people in Australia outside the Church. The missioner said he had endeavoured for many years to give an economic interpretation of the teachings of Christ. His stay in Auckland had been a very happy one, and he would never cease to be thankful for his associations with the city missioner, the Rev. Jasper Calder. He told the congregation that a man of high qualifications would be found in his successor, the Rev. Or. E. Moreton, of Dunedin. Mr. and Mrs. Chandler will leave for Sydney by the Marama on Friday. Mr. Chandler hopes to open a social crusade mission in Sydney early in the new year.
