PIGEON FLYING
The concluding race of the 1929 old bird season was held by the Onehunga Club on Saturday. The contest took the form of an individual test of the homing instinct of each pigeon, by liberating it singly, thereby compelling it to lind its way home unaided. The birds were released from Wanganui at ten-minute intervals, and the high standard of the Onehunga pigeons was demonstrated by the prompt arrival of all the starters. The winner. All Red, has started in only six races, and has won five of them, being placed second in the remaining event. She flew the distance of 212 miles on Saturday in 6hr 4min. Results: —Mr. J. Wallace’s All Red, 1.022 yards a minute. 1; Mr. W. K. Larking’s Honour. 1,012 yds, 2; Mr. T. Collins’s Logan's Pride. 988yds, 3; Mr. D. Sargent’s Rosella, 982yds, 4. Six other birds started.
