Neeoro Wins Well
TROTTING AT NEW BRIGHTON Ex-Pacer Writer Scores in Trot special to THE SUS . CHRISTCHURCH, Saturday. PERFECT weather was experienced for the New Brighton Trotting Club fixture today, which was staged before a pood attendance. Showers overnight left the track in good order and fast footing was provided, many placed horses clipping several seconds off their handicaps.
Speculation was keen during the day, j £24.161 being put through the machine. against £20.499 last year. Backers I of favourites started off badly, good ! prlrf candidates capturing the earlier I events. However, Neeoro, elect of the Arid in the Mace Memorial, broke the I run. and other first selections in Kate Logan, Writer and Lady Matchlight, pulled their followers through. Outsider Scores Nancy McKinney, King’s Voyage anil Scuttle were the public selections f o r the Trial Handicap. Scuttle made U p his handicap fast and looked a winner when heads were turned for home, I. u t Rapture. recovering smartly from break when leading In the back, finished strongly to beat her when she stopped to a walk, by two lengths. Bon ora broke in the back and was six lengths away, third. Fifa trotted a • a ir race going solidly throughout. Miss Wilkes. King’s Voyage, Bramdean j and Waiata Poi did best of the others. I Improvers Go Fast St. George carried the public confi- ' donee in the Improvers’ Handicap, and i there was good support for Mussolini. ! It was not a good lace. Kid Logan drew out at the start, and gradually increased his lead to win easily by six lengths. St. George outstayed Mussolini for second money. There was little to afford comment, as the fourth horse. Otaio Rose, was a long way back. Kid Logan hails from X. C. Price’s stable at Rangiora. A bit better placed earlier, St. George would have troubled the winner. Favourites Pay the Money The public went solidly for Xeeoro in the Mace Memorial Handicap, and he wound up carrying nearly £3OO more than Arikitoa. This was good sorting, for the pair were well clear of anything els© at the finish, and Xeeoro won pulling up. Arikitoa was the only one that looked like taking stock of Neeoro, but when the straight was reached he was content to stall off Mac Dillon and Sonoma. Xeeoro never looked like getting beaten. He is by Rey do Oro from that prolific brood mare, Xeeratte, and is trained by A. Hendrickson who should soon have another flrst-flighter, judging by his impressive performance. Sun Shower and Apex were out of court early, and Avenger never settled to his work after a mistake at the start. Sonoma gave a promising display, and he finished well enough to make a ‘host of friends for his next public outing. Kate Logan All the Way Kate Logan won practically all the way in th© Bowhill Handicap. Her Forbury Park form pointed to early success, and she won fairly comfortably from Cyone. Otaio Rose, having her second outing, beat a tired lot for third. Harold Lee put in a fast run in the back, and nearly headed Kate Logan at the naif mile, but he had had enough by the time heads were turned tor home. Author Franz was another that lost his punch at the commencement of the acid test, and others were not at all impressive. Decidedly disappointing were Mac Locanda, Sir Guy, Heal liuon and Jupiter. Cyone will be hard to beat in either the Gore or Winton Ci;.’. if she is taken on the Southern circuit this month. A Favourable Run Cushla D’Or, a hot favourite for the Dash Handicap, was never dangerous, and when Baron Bingen broke and stopped Haydock at the start, a good deal of interest was taken from the contest. Half a mile from home, Tennessee Child looked the part, until Kugene do Oro was brought along on the rails. What some of the other reinsmen were doing is hard to comprehend, but the fact remains that Free Holmes brought Kugene de Oro past fully half a dozen horses right on the fence. It was a masterly stroke, and once the straight was reached Kugene de Oro came away to score decisively. Logan Princess and Voung Bingen headed Tennessee Child "hen he tired very suddenly a furlong from home. A Demonstration Th© hostile demonstration that followed the hoisting of the numbers in the Sea View Handicap was uuite uncalled for, as there was no doubt that Writer, although headed by All Peters 100 yards off the post, got up under a. hard -’rive to snatch a short head verdict in the last few strides. Writer started well and carried on at ease until Boneta came at him with one and a-lialf miles gone. He disposed of her without apparent effort, but "hen All Peters came along with a *et sail at the three-furlong post, Writer had to bo sent along. The pair cam© to grips inside the distance,
and he owed his win to expert handling on the part of M. Holmes. Lady Matchlight’s Saddle Lady Matchlight, who has not been long in X. C. JPrioe’s stable, was the elect of backers in the Electric Handicap, and there was also solid support for Ricardo. Logan King set the early pace, but Lady Matchlight took charge after two furlongs had been covered. Horotane challenged Lady Matchlight in th© straight, but it was futile, and the mare won by half a length. Firpo starting for the second time, was a close third, with the others strung out. It was a fast run race, and if Lady Matchlight retains her present form she will win again. Results are as follow: Trial Handicap, of £130; trotters, 3.50 limit; li miles.—9 Rapture (A. Daveys), limit (owner), 1; 3 Scuttle, 2; 6 Bonora, limit, 3. Also started: 6 Esbine (brack-

an d j* hard battle took place between them. Th© others were beaten otf for the simple reason that they were outclassed. Young Carbine was six '*ngths away in third place, followed ky Little Johnnie. Omaha Scores at Last Warepa tried to win the Wainoni Handicap from end to end, just failing to survive the challenge of Omaha :n the last half-furlong. Avonwood was going very fast in the back, when he broke and finished his prospects. The trotter Kempton cam© from the ruck a t the conclusion to beat Granite City for third berth. It was a great go, a nd augurs well for his Rowe Cup Prospects at Auckland. Roi Cole did best of the others, and then came °undas Boy. who showed a torrent of speed going down the back, which b® could not sustain in the run home, did not pace with any of the 2 f«t that would point to his having a r hance in the Auckland Cup, and he !* n ot nearly right. Omaha broke a lon S term of unplaced performances.
