CELEBRATING LEGACY
WOMAN GAOLED FOR VAGRANCY Arrested for drunkenness, following a celebration with a relative who had come into money, Margaret Royal was further charged with vagrancy at the Police Court this morning. She was sentenced to three months’ imprisonment. Royal, a married woman, aged 39, was charged with being found drunk in Nelson Street, and being idle and disorderly, having insufficient lawful means of support. Mr. McLiver appeared for her, and entered pleas of guilty. Senior-Sergeant O’Grady said that Royal had been arrested after a celebration. According to Mr. McLiv;er. drink was responsible for Royal’s troubles. He suggested a prohibition order. The woman had her mother to support, and there was a home for her to go to. Mr. F. Iv. Hunt, S.M.: Yes, Mount Eden home. She has spent a great deal of time there, judging by her list. The senior-sergeant added that accused’s mother was an old-age pensioner. Accused had been associating with thieves. Major Annie Gordon, probation officer, said that nothing could be done for Royal, and the term of imprisonment was imposed. ,
