AUSTRALIA SUPPORTED FROM AUCKLAND MR. SCULLIN’S ANSWER The Commonwealth Government's attitude toward compulsory military training was commended at a recent public meeting in Auckland, and under instruction, the chairman, Mr. E. Stevenson, sent the following cable to the Federal Prime Minister, Mr. James H. Seullin: A great public demonstration under the auspices of the Anti-Military League and the Labour Party unanimously carried a resolution congratulating your Government on repealing of boy conscription in Australia. The New Zealand Labour Party is pledged to repeal the Act here on accesion to office. From the Federal capital, Mr. Scullin has acknowledged the message under date December 3 in these terms: — X received your cable of congratulations on the Government's action in suspending compulsory military training, and am pleased to learn that it meets with the approval of those mentioned by you. A message was dispatched by Mr. i Stevenson to the British Prime Minis- | ter, Mr. Ramsay MacDonald, congratulating him on his peace mission to America, and stating that the great majority of ’New Zealand people was against compulsory military training, : and that a resolution on these lines had been carried by a meeting of 2,000 ; people. j So far no reply has been received i from Mr. MacDonald-
