SCHOOL PRIZE-GIVING
WAIKATO DIOCESIAN SCHOOL INSPECTOR’S IMPRESSIVE REPORT From Our Ot on Correspondent. HAMILTON, Friday. Thn Waikato Diocesan Girls’ School field its annual prize-giving ceremony today. There was a large attendance of parents. Mr. D. Hay presided and congratulated the headmistress, Miss Eva Necker, and staff, on the excellent work that had been done during the year. Mr. H. G. Sergei, a governor of the school, said it was the aim of the governors to establish in the Waikato a girls' school on the lines of the great establishments in England. Regret was expressed that Miss Necker would be leaving the services of the board. Mr. Sergei bespoke a cordial welcome for her successor, Miss E. R. Edwards, who, he said, was a teacher of the highest qualifications. Miss Necker, in her annual report, said the school opened with a roll of 81 and closed with an attendance of 88, including 18 boarders. The health of the pupils had been excellent. Six girls had not missed a half-day’s school. During the year a fair and a concert had been held and £77 had been raised. It was proposed to spend this money on furniture. The Government inspectors had reported that they had noted a steady improvement in the efficiency of the school, and a good standard had been set. There had been an improvement in English, and the discipline, tone and organisation of tlue school were excellent. Trophies.—Drill shield: Senior, Nolline Peterson; junior, Sydney Strang. lnterhouse shield: Whitehorn House. PUKEKOHE TECHNICAL AGRICULTURE NOT POPULAR from Our Own Correspondent PUKEKOHE. Today. Parents, old students and friends assembled in large numbers at the annual prize-giving ceremony of the Pukekohe Technical High School yesterday. Mr. P. Perkins, chairman of the Board of Managers, presided. In his report the headmaster. Mr. W. P. J. Munroe, said the roll number at the commencement of the year was 138 boys, 113 girls, making a total ot 251. In the third term the numbers decreased to 108 boys, 89 girls a total of 197. Taking the commercial course there was 43 per cent, of the roll number; commercial course. 32 per cent., totalling 76 per cent. The agricultural students only accounted for about 6 per cent., domestic science 8 per cent., and handicrafts about 10 per cent. He asserted that these numbers were not evenly balanced and said the agricultural and technical courses were not receiving the share they merited. Mr. A. W. Hall, member for Haurakl, who distributed the prizes, agreed that insufficient numbers were following the course in agriculture. Following is the prize list-—-Form 111. E. —A. Franklin, 1, D.
