YOUNG PEOPLE’S DANCE [ SUCCESSFUL GATHERING AT NORTHCOTE A jolly young people’s dance was held in the Palais Theatre, Northoote, on Thursday evening - . The theatre was gaily decorated with coloured balloons and red roses. The latest and most popular dance numbers were supplied by Mr. C. Aspden’s orchestra. The dance lloor was under the control of Mr. Cl. H. Edwards, who organised the function. The Munto Carlo waltz was won by Miss M. Woodward and Mr. F. Woodward. while a streamer polonaise was greatly enjoyed. Among those present were: Miss E. Pearce, who wore a frock of lemon georgette; Miss M. Ryan, blue georgette; Miss M. WAIOTAHI INSTITUTE The monthly meeting of the Waiotahi Women's Institute took the form of a visit to the Bay of Plenty Power Board' distributing station at Waiotahi, where Air. Farmer had agreed to show members over the premises. A very interesting hour was spent in booking round and listening to the explanations given. Afternoon tea out-of-doors closed the gathering. During the afternoon a vote of sympathy was passed to Mrs. Absolom (president of the Opotiki branch of the Women's Institute) in the death of her husband, members standing as a token of sympathy.
PINK AND BLUE DECORATIONS | Gaily-decorated with streamers of pink and blue, from which hung balloons, the Papatoetoe Town Hall presented a picturesque setting for the old-time ball cn Wednesday evening. An enjoyable programme of dance music was supplied by Mr. and Mrs. P. Kiddel and Mr. N. Morey, a large number of dancers being present. Mr. J. Henderson fulfilled the duties of M.C. TWO MAIDS IN YELLOW; FLOWER-GIRL WEARS NYMPH GREEN JONES —ARROWSMITH A very pretty wedding - took place at St. Benedict’s Church, Auckland, on Wednesday, when Marjory Maude, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. G. M. Arrowsmith, of Devonport, was married to Kenneth Francis Jones, of Invercargill, youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. F. A. Jones, of Dargaville. The Rev. Father Zanna officiated. The bride entered the church on the arm of her father, wearing a gown of blush pink georgette and silver lace with tight-fitting bodice and full skirt falling to an uneven hem. A large hip-bow of tulle finished the waistline. Tier veil of pale pink embroidered tulle, which formed a long train, was swathed with silver bands across the head and finished with bunches ot orange blossoms above each ear. She carried a pale pink bouquet of carnations and roses. The bride was attended by two bridesmaids, Miss B. Arrowsmith, sister of the bride, and Miss D. Jones, cousin of the bridegroom. Both wore very pretty frocks of daffodil georgette with tight-fitting bodices and tiered skirts of flared frills dipping to either side. Tulle hats to match were worn, and they carried shower bouquets of stocks and sweepeas. Miss Trixie Arrowsmith made a charming little flower girl, dressed in nymph green crepe de chine, with Dolly Varden hat to tone, and carried a shower posy. The bridegroom was attended by Mr. George Sinclair as best man, and Mr. Desmond "Walsh acted as groomsman. A reception was held at the Farmers’ Reception Rooms. The bride’s mother received the guests attired in midnight blue marocain relieved with silver-grey georgette, with hat to tone. She carried a sheath of crimson roses. Mrs. F. A. Jones wore navy blue crepe de chine hat to tone, and carried a sheath of autumn-tinted flow r ers. PALEST PINK SATIN RICHMOND BRIDE CARRIES ROSES AND SWEET PEAS WILLIAMS—GREEN A pretty wedding took place on Wednesday afternoon at the Richmond Presbyterian Church, when Elvera Ellen, youngest daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Green, of Karangahake, was married to John Alfred Williams, of Karaka. The Rev. Angus MacDonald officiated, Miss M. Johnston presiding at the organ. The bride, who entered the church on the arm of her brother-in-law, Mr.
G. H. Hunt, wore a charming frock of pale shell pink satin beaute embroidered in silver, and caught at one side with a silver and diamente buckle. Her veil of soft pink net formed a train, and was held in place by a coronet of orange blossoms. A beautiful shower bouquet of roses and sweet peas was carried. As bridesmaid, Miss Ida Hunt was becomingly frocked in duchess blue georgine, the skirt having deep flounces and diamente trimming. She wore a hat to tone, and carried a shower bouquet of carnations and sweet peas. The duties of best man were performed by Mr. Leach. A reception was held later at the residence of the bride’s sister. Mrs. G. H. Hunt, who received the guests in a charming frock of cornflower blue crepe de chine, which was worn with a smart hat of the same shade of blue. She carreid a bouquet of carnations. CITY WEDDING SERVICE AT CHURCH OF THE HOLY SEPULCHRE BATTEN—GLOVER On Wednesday last a pretty wedding was celebrated at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, when Miss Eileen Maud Glover, second daughter of Mr. N. Glover, of Auckland, was married to Mr. Horace Clarence Batten, only son of Mr. and Mrs. H. Batten, of Edendale. The Rev. Gordon Bell was the officiating minister, Mr. Trevor Sparling presiding at the organ. The bride, who was given away by her father, wore a charming frock of ivory satin beaute and silver lace, which fell in graceful folds from a plain corsage. Tier veil was of beautifully embroidered silk net, and she carried a shower bouquet of white blossoms. Two maids were in attendance on the bride. Miss Lily Reilly, who wore a frock of citron georgette, and Miss Mona ITetet, whose frock was of georgette in a pale shade of lemon- Both wore picture hats to match their frocks, and carried bouquets to tone. Mr. Mervyn Parris fulfilled the duties of best man, Mr. Edward Long acting as groomsman. The two little flower girls, Marjorie Clough and Irene Long, w r ere delightfully frocked in blue and pink georgette respectively, with large crinoline hats and posies to tone with their frocks. A reception was held later in the Masonic Hall, Eden Terrace, the hostess receiving the guests in a frock of french blue crepe de chine with a hat to tone. Mrs. Batten was wearing a navy crepe do chine frock, with a hat of toning shades. The bride’s travelling frock was of blue crep© de chine, worn with a lemon coloured hat.
