ELLERSLIE TRAINING
THIS MORNING’S WORK USEFUL EFFORTS ONLY Nothing better than useful working gallops was the feature of this morning’s training at Ellerslie, but never- ! theless fast tracks were responsible for some fair times being recorded. Trainers had the option of the course proper, with the flags out 25 feet, and number two grass. Course Proper Eager Rose swung down the back at a good three-quarter pace, and with the pace increased at the halfmile she carried out the four furlongs in 52 2-5, without being asked to give anywhere near of her best. Zeil and Good Idea were associated over five furlongs in 1.7, recording 24 3-5 for the initial two, and then finishing on terms. Importer encompassed a round in 2.18 —a working gallop—and for the last foifr of six furlongs Tetrarchate registered 53 2-5. Brampton, who is working in improved fashion, was doing better than Avoncourt at the conclusion of half a mile in 51 2-5, but both were under restraint. Taneriri and Thunderstorm went away from almost a stand at the new mile post, and for their three furlongs took 38, the first two in 25 3-5. Respirator was allowed to bowl along over five furlongs, the last four taking 53 1-5, and Diamond Queen and Bizarro left five behind in 1.6 3-5. Merry Lu and Tukunoa were partnered over half a mile in 53, and both ridden right out, the former gained a decisive victory. Currajong, who was accorded tils firt sprint since he met with an accident several weeks ago, disposed of the last three of four furlongs in 39. On the two-year-old track Hampton Park ran three furlongs in 40 4-5, but he was doing it in effortless style. Number Two Grass Alloy and Hannibal were dispatched for six furlongs in 1.19, and thertf was nothing between them at the end. This first two furlongs were covered in 25 2-5, and three in 37 4-5, and it was apparent they could have improved upon their time had it been desired. A fast five furlongs was credited to Vallar, who ran his first in 12 3-5, two in 24 3-5, and then came home in 1.5. He accomplished his work in impressive style, and was moving so freely at the end as to suggest that better time was not beyond him. Hyde Park moved freely over a round, but was not after time.
RICCARTON NOTES FULL FEATHER’S SPRINT Special to THE SUN CHRISTCHURCH, Friday. Dunraven and Whatnot sprinted two furlongs the reverse way in 26 at Riccarton yesterday, but neither was extended. Meprisant, Stately, Starshooter and the other members of G. Murray Aynsley’s team worked steadily, while P. V. Mason’s team was restricted to walking exercise in the centre of the track. Most of the galloping was done on the plough, which was a trifle on the slow side early as a result of a very thick fog, but there were few track trials on the “trial” grass. Subdivision was one of the workers on this track, and his half-mile in 50 3-5 was a good effort. Dutch Money was not asked to go fast. She worked on the plough over five furlongs, and for that distance occupied 1.8 2-5. The best half-mile of the morning went to Full Feather and Semper Paratus, who sprinted that distance in 49 4-5. Full Feather looks a very fit horse, and he is certain have a large following in his Manawatu engagements should he be sent North. Gay Crest and Marsham recorded 52 3-5 for four furlongs, and Quarterdeck worked steadily over six furlongs. Waterline led Ball Dress at the conclusion of three furolngs in 37 3-5, and at the end of five furlongs in 1.8 3-5 Rapina easily held Sea Gay. Coupling and Thurso moved attractively over six furlongs in 1.18 2-5, with Coupling doing better at the close. Over four furlongs on the grass Amor held Hounslow in 49 4-5. Phastar worked steadily on the plough, as did Hoylake. Waihemo and Topere ran three furlongs in 37 2-5, and Great Star worked at a strong pace in good 3tyle. Riccarton trainer W. Hobbs intends to patronise the Dunedin meeting with j Tarquinius and Dutch Money, and pro- ' bably will leave for the South about December 23. Dutch Money was not seen at her best at Ashburton, but she looked well ; this morning and hit out freely while doing steady work on the plough. R. Uonglev will be represented at Southern fixtures by Thurso and Coupling. J. Beban will leave for West Coast soon with Topere. Decoy Bird. Tant. Sapient. Waihemo and Ai-u'enc D. Cotton will do th ritiinsr for 1> Campbell's stable at Hie WaikouaiC meeting.
