ABOLISH SUBMARINES

ITALY SUPPORTS BRITAIN AND AMERICA DEFINITE DECISION REACHED British Official Wireless LONDON, Thursday. The Rome correspondent of “The Times” says it is understood that the Italian Government, after long and careful consideration, has decided to associate itself with the Governments of Britain and the United States in their advocacy or the abolition of submarines. It is expected that the Foreign Minister, Signor Grandi, when the Five Powers Naval Conference opens iu London, will announce that if Britain and America are prepared to advocate such a policy at the Geneva Disarmament Conference, Italy will co-operate with them. Italy has decided upon this policy, says the correspondent, regardless of what France and Japan may decide to do. Italy admits that a universal agreement is necessary before abolition of the submarine can bo realised, but she is led to believe that her decision would influence the smaller Powers. It is thus hoped to assist in the ultimate realisation of the policy of Britain and America.
