TWELVE DEAD IN RIOT
REVOLT BY NEW YORK CONVICTS HEAD WARDER KILLED NEW YORK, Wednesday. In the riot which occurred in the New York State prison at Auburn, 11 prisoners and the head warder were killed. The desperate prisoners fired on the warders, killing George Durnford, the head warder, and wounding several others. Harry Sullivan, the spokesman for the 20 ringleaders, and two other prisoners were killed before the main body of the prisoners were driven further into the main building. More prisoners were killed before the desperadoes were finally subdued.
