SITUATION EASIER

CHINESE REBELS REPULSED SCATTERED FRONTIER British Official Wireless Heed. 1130 a.m. RUGBY, Thursday. Telegrams from China indicate that on the Yangtse River the situation is somewhat easier. At Icang, the rebels have been repulsed and have retired. Foreigners who had removed to vessels in the river have now returned to their houses. Hankow remains quiet for the time being and the situation at Nanking is unchanged, there being indications of a firmer resistance by the Central Government’s forces. Fighting is proceeding on the Tientsin-Pukow Railway. In South Canton the forces are resisting attacks a few miles to the north of the port.
