Good Acre was alongside Manifesto crossing the top, with Grecian and Portray ahead of Pedestal and Habit. Good Acre gave way at the straight entrance, where Grecian joined Manifesto, with Portray making forward move. In the run home Grecian held the advantage to win by half a length from the fast-finishing Portray, with Manifesto a neck back. Then came Habit, a shade in front of Lady Gen, Miss Quex, Pedesal and Gipsy’s Fate. Gothard Memorial Otairi (£417) wound up a firm favourite for the Gothard Memorial Handicap, Avro (£204), Merry Damon i£22l) and Merry Mint (£206) ranking next in favour. Blimp jumped away smartly from Otairi, Kick Off, Merry Mint, Miss Ransom and Atholspear, but rounding the turn into the back Atholspear ran up to join Blimp, with Talisker and Kick Off working up to Otairi. Crossing the top Blimp was still in the van from Talisker, Atholspear. Merry Mint, Mountain Heath and Otairi, “the favourite being boxed in on the rails. Merry Mint came up on the outside turning into the straight and was attending Blimp and Talisker. Over the final pinch Merry Mint tackled Blimp, but the Gasbag fielding hung on to make a dead heat of it. with Otairi, who had finally got through, a length and a-half back and just ahead of Atholspear. Then came Talisker and Billion. Kick Off. who is going to Auckland at Christmas, is in fair form. Otairi will be improved by the race.
Kiritaki Handicap Glenartney (£648) Mas entrusted with over a third of the total investments in the Kiritaki Handicap, there being fair support for Royal Parade (£301) and l‘;nvn Sugar (£214). When the field had settled down, Olenirtney was in the van from High Society, AVarzone, Royal Parade, and Blue Paper; but within a fu.rlong Blue Paper ran tip to the favourite, and the pair led Royal Parade. High Society, Statuary, Cuticle, and Warzone into the straight. Inside the distance AVarzone fell, bringing down Waterspear and Brown Sugar. In the meantime Glenartney had secured the advan age over Blue Paper, but the favourite had to be kept at it to win hy a short neck from Royal ‘Parade, *ho got up in time to force Blue Paper hack into third place, a nose separating the pair. Cuticle was right up fourth, with Statuary, Auda, and lligli Society together. Railway Handicap ’The first day's winner.
