Progress of A.C.A. Series
UNIVERSITY meets Grafton on Xo. 1 wicket at Eden Park tomorrow afternoon in the chief attraction of the first day's play in the sixth series of matches of the Auckland Cricket Association’s 1929-30 senior A grade competition.
University was unseated from top I place by Parnell in its last match, but I tho general prospect seems to bo that I th*» students will be somewhat stronger than Grafton. However, with Dick | Kowntree behind the stumps again, and all the stars in form with the bat and ball, Grafton will, no doubt, make the I encounter a merry one. Both teams will bo at full strength for the game, and tho six prospective representatives playing—three on each >ode, wi l no doubt draw the selectors’ «»yes, as. tho representative season is very clcse now. Another interesting match will be that between Ponsonby and Y.M.C.A. on No. 2 wicket at Eden Park. After finish with Grafton last Saturday. tho Y.M.C.A. side should be able to hold the powerful bowling side opposed (o it, and may even prove to be the better batting combination. Eden, jitter :i meritorious, but unfruitful performance against North Shore on the fust day of the last match •will play United Suburbs on the third wicket at headquarters, and there is little .tc suggest that it will meet opposition strong enough to prevent it taking a three-point win at least. The championship leader, Parnell, will journey to Devonport to meet North Shore, and there is every indication that tho visitors will have a win. Shore, so far this season, has performed lamentably, and now* lies last on tho championship table. Competitions in all tho junior graces will bo advanced a further stage.
