A public meeting attended by 60. residents was held at Mount Maunganui, when it was decided to revive the life-saving club. The chairman, Mr. p. P. Bain, said that a committee had been working in conjunction with the Mount Maunganui Domain Board to further the project. A large number of those pressent joined the club. A large number of summer visitors have arrived at The Mount, and it is expected it will be a very busy season. * * * The week-end excursion train from Auckland was not very largely patronised, there being about 150 passengers. This no doubt was largely due to it being so near the Christmas holidays, and also the unseasonable weather. * * * The Cambridge schools are to hold their annual picnic on December 17. The Domain and camping sites along the beach have been thrown open for the visitors. • An attempt is being made to eradicate ragwort. Air. Walker, instructor in agriculture, has liberated a large number of cinnabar moths on several farms.
