“OLD ENGLISHE FAYRE”
IMPROVEMENT OF SCHOOL GROUNDS ONEHUNGA MOVEMENT A public meeting was held la=t evening in the Orphans’ Hall, Onehunga, to receive the report of the committee set up on November 26 to receive proposals of a scheme for the improvement of the public school ground and the erection of a band rotunda in Jellicoe Park. The Mayor. Mr. E. Morton, presided over a moderate attendance. It was agreed to organise an “Old Englishe Fayre" in Jellicoe Park in February and to arrange' for a series of moonlight excursions on the Manukau Harbour during the summer. A proposal was made to raise the necessary funds by means of an art union but this met with vigorous opposition on ethical grounds. Mr. W. H. liayward was appointed chairman of the fayre committee, with Mr. J. Hipp as secretary, and Mr! T. H. Ashe as treasurer. The estimated cost of the improvements is £1,500, half of which will be provided as a subsidy by the Education Department.
