FLORAL COVERING
FLOWERS PLANTED ON CAMPBELL POINT CLAY WILL BE HIDDEN Campbell Point, at present a series of barren clay slopes, will soon be glowing in terraces of rich colour. Men of the Public Works Department have planted the slopes with thousands of ice-plants, of various colours, and they are growing splendidly. The reorganisation of the railway yards to provide for the outlet via the Westfield Deviation necessitated the removal of large quantities of earth from Campbell Point. No more earth is required to be moved and the slopes have been finished off to their permanent batter. At present Campbell’s Point looks dull and desolate but as soon as the ice-plants begin to spread the clay will be covered by a green carpet which will later give way to the gay colours of flowers.
The ice-plants have been set in small holes in the clay slopes. They grow quickly and are the most suitable vegetation for such areas.
