RENTING OF CARS
LICENCE MUST BE SHOWN BY HIRER OWNER’S RESPONSIBILITY The necessity for owners of car rental businesses ascertaining that the hirers of motor-cars held driving licences was emphasised at the Police Court thi3 morning when Rental Cars Ltd. was fined 10s with costs 10s for failing to note particulars of a hirer’s driving licence before renting out a car. Mr. Wallace appeared for defendants and entered a plea of guilty. In this instance the man who hired the car had produced a driving licence on other occasions, and the clerk had taken his word for it when he said that he still held one. Sub-Inspector McCarthy pointed out that the prosecution was brought as a warning to garage proprietors of their responsibilities in transactions involving the renting of a ear.
