FRUIT EXPORT PROBLEMS

NELSON GROWERS MEET SHIPPING DELAY LOSSES Press Association NELSON, Monday. A meeting of the executive committees of all the fruitgrowers' organisations in the province was held at Nelson, when delegates dismissed howbest to elicit information concerning the causes of the heavy losses to exporters of Nelson last season, by reason of the long delay in shipment and the consequent damage to fruit. Other matters discussed were priority of shipment; the extraordinary differences in prices obtained; rebates on fruit sold: cool storage, with consequent losses, in the United Kingdom, and damage to New Zealand’s reputation in overseas markets. Mr. J. Dicker, director of the Fruitgrowers’ Federation, gave some figures indicating the extent to which some growers had failed in their estimates of exportable crops, and the efforts on the part of the management to secure additional shipping space. It was decided to appoint a committee of investigation. The meeting also carried, by a large majority, a motion in favour of investigation by groAvers and voicing disapproA'al of a petition now in circulation requesting Government interference.
