Two Children Hurt in Airplane Mishap

WHEEL IN RABBIT HOLE

CRASH INTO FENCE

Special to THE SUN TE AROHA, Monday. Two children were injured when an airplane in which they were passengers collided with a fence as the machine was taking off at Waihou today. An airplane, owned by the Waikato Aero Club concern, and containing the pilot, Captain Wardrop, and John Crowsdale, 12, and Kathleen Wawntann, 6, was about to rise from Mr. G. P. Goodfellow's paddock when a wheel caught in a rabbit hole. The machine fluttered into the air and then dropped again, and crashed into a wire fence.

The left wing was damaged and the propeller blades broken off. Although suffering from shock the pilot promptly removed the children from the machine.

The boy was found to have received a severe cut below his right knee, and the little girl had minor head and face injuries. The pilot -gave first-aid and after attention by a doctor, the boy was sent to the Waikato Hospital. Repairs are being effected to the machine, which is expected to be flown again tomorrow.
