MANUREWA TOWN BOARD

On the recommendation of the No. j 2 District Highways Council, the Manurewa Town Board decided last evening to lay the shoulders on the approaches to the railway bridge four feet wide. At the request of the Auckland Returned Soldiers’ Association, a subscription list for the roll of. honour fund is to be opened in the district. The clerk was authorised to instruct the noxious weeds inspector to furnish a report of his activities. Several members urged the necessity of drastic action being taken against those who fail to remove noxious weeds. Dr. Thos. Hughes, medical officer of health, advised it had been found that for some time the amount recovered from the local bodies served by Senior Inspector Franklin had been totally inadequate to cover a reasonable proportion of his working expenses. It had been decided that from April 1 the cost to Manurewa for the service would be increased to £4B 10s per annum. Mr. "Whyte’s recommendation that the clerk communicate with other local bodies and ascertain their opinion on the proposed levy was carried.
