BOWSER STATION FIRE
TYRES AND OIL DESTROYED MAIN PETROL TANKS SAVED From Our Own Correspondent NEW PLYMOUTH, Today. Fire gutted a large bowser station at Fitzroy early yesterday* morning. Starting, it is believed, in the vulcanising room, it destroyed many new tyres, tins of motor-oil, and accessories. Windows were broken by the heat and the inner walls consumed by the flames so that only the shell of the walls is left standing. A gale was blowing at the time and the wind hampered the firemen. However, they finally got the fire under control and prevented it from reaching the petrol in the bowser pumps and tanks in front. The owner, Mr. W. Brittenden, will lose heavily, particularly as he will miss the Christmas season for which he had taken a quantity of extra stock.
