THE NEW BISHOP
DR. J. M. LISTON SUCCEEDS TEN YEARS COADJUTOR As coadjutor-bishop with right of succession to the See, the Right Rev. Dr. J. M. Liston becomes Bishop of Auckland. Although ceremonial enthronement does not take place until later, his elevation is immediate. Born in Dunedin in 1881, Dr. Liston was educated there, in Sydney, in Dublin and In Rome, and was ordained In the Cathedral, Dunedin, in 1904. He was a professor at Holy Cross College, Mosgiel, for six years until 1910, when he was appointed rector of the college. From that position he came to Auckland, at the end of 1920, "to help and cheer a noble veteran of the Church’s army," as he himself said, in acknowledging addresses of welcome from the clergy and the laity of the diocese.
