LOCATION OF BRIDGE
TRANSPORT CHAIRMAN’S OPINION SHOULD CARRY TRAM TRACK A report on his views concerning the harbour bridge scheme was made to the Auckland Transport Board this morning by the chairman, Mr. J„ A. C. Allum. * He said he had been approached by the secretary of the commission now sitting, and asked to appear before the commission to give evidence before the board. Mr. Allum advised the commission that the proposed bridge had not been considered by the board and that it would be pleased to arrange to supply any information. It seemed to him, Mr. Allum e:aid, that the board could agree that the proposed bridge would be a convenience, but whether the cost of the convenience was justified at the present time the board was not in a position to judge. He understood that it was proposed that the width of the bride should be 66ft, which would be sufficient to provide a double line of tram track. This would be sufficient, but the bridge should in any case be so constructed as to enable it to carry tram© if required. Tf the board wished him to accede to the request of the commission he would do so. He recommended that the manager be authorised to give any technical information the commission might require. The report was adopted.
