Cup And Sprint

The Big Auckland Double rIE Auckland'Cup and Railway Handicap are to be run at Ellerslie on Thursday fortnight, a reminder that the big summer carnival is rapidly approaching. Already there have been a few defections since the declaration of weights, Nightmarcli. Pegaway and Cashier having dropped out of the Cup, while the well-fancied three-year-olds. Eaglet and Ceremony, together with First Money and Limited, have disappeared from the sprint field. This still leaves 38 in the Cup and‘43 in the Railway, figures which are likely to be still further reduced in the next few days. At present it would seem that a few that can be named as doubtful Cup runners arc Chide, Prince Humphrey, Kick Off, llo.vlake. Panther, First Acre, Flying Juliet. Flying Prince, King’s Jest, Merry Mint, Pink Note, The Viscount and Taurua. Of the Railway Handicap field a few that can be labelled as doubtful starters are Paganelli, High Finance, Auda, Air

STAR STRANGER is one of the ruling fancies for the Auckland Cup, in which he has 8.12. King, Crimestor, Coon Song, Flair, Gold Dawn, Melissa, Paiko and Tasty. There is nothing very definite about any of the horses named, and there may not he much doing in this direction until acceptances are declared on Friday week. Horses still remaining in the two big events are the following:—
