JERSEY BREEDERS

VISIT TO MR. A. J. COURT’S HERD PEDIGREE COWS ON VIEW With a view to giving increased prominence to the value of the Jersey cow as an economical yet highly-pro-ductive butter-fat producer, the Auckland Metropolitan Jersey Club has conducted a progressive campaign on educational lines over the winter. Principal attention has been given to public demonstrations on Jersey points held on tlie farms of prominent Auckland breeders. The final fixture of tlie season was held on Saturday, when Jersey fanciers assembled at Mr. J. A. Court’s “Seven Oaks.” Ellerslie, property, for the purpose of a demonstration on his particularly fine herd of local and imported Jerseys. The cattle were led into'the ring in twos and threes, where the demonstrator, Mr. A. C. Jones, of Northcote, went over the various points before a ring of interested breeders. Strength and weakness in relation to production, constitution and breeding were pointed out, and many questions were answered by the demonstrator. One of the cows brought into the ring was the imported animal Volunteer’s Rosebud, a cow* which in a class of 70 entries at the Jersey Island Royal Show in 1924 was placed third. Although Mr. Court has only a small herd at “Seven Oaks.” it is interesting to note that at his “Fencourt,” Cambridge. property he is milking a herd of 98 Jerseys, which have held a very high place in herd-testing records of that district over the past season.
