THE BEST XMAS GIFTS NEW ZEALAND-MADE GOODS ANE of the greatest delights of v the festive season is the giving of presents to our friends and relatives- Playing at Santa Claus Is a gloom-chasing occupation which obliterates all mean and grouchy feelings, and gives free expression to our most worthy emotions. The joy of giving will be complete with the added know ledge that the money spent on gifts is finding employment and happiness for our fellow citizens and their families. It may seem out of place, to some, to bring up this subject at a time lik» this, but it is just when the spending season is approaching, that buyers most need a reminder and some advice about spending our hard earned sa' ings to the best advantage. There are many this Christmas -who will have no savings to spend, and somwho will find but little in their stockings from Santa Claus. They will be the idle breadwinners and their families. and their Christmas will not be such a happy one because during the year we have been buying goods made by workers in other countries, instead of showing preference for those proj duced by our own folk. HAPPINESS FOR A_L | Those who are fortunate enough to enjoy the pleasure of buying gifts in abundance this Christmas can use that spending power to the best nd vantage and the greatest good by spending every penny possible on goods made in New Zealand. By that simple and patriotic practice we are increasing the spend ing power and happiness of our local workers, and filling more weekly pay envelopes just as surely as if we put the money in them with our own hands. The buyers of gifts must be in a hopeless state of indecision, and equally unpleasable, if the widesi variety and diversity of goods offered by our local manufacturers fails to satisfy the demand for gift goods. These pages this week will give you a guide to the most useful and appreciated presents: and no matter whether they are meant for old or young, owhether your choice leans toward the useful or ornamental, you will find something that just fills the bill, and just fits your purse, made right here in New Zealand by happy, busy and contented workers, from our own materials. THE BEST OF GIFTS A week ago many thousands of us watched our glorious girlhood from the business houses at play, and felt proud of a little country which can produce such splendid young girl workers. We know they are employed under working conditions and humarn regulations which provide them with full opportunity for physical, meutsil and artistic development, and their conditions of labour are the best in the world. The best gift for them is to keep them busy and well paid, and provide similar openings for hundreds of other girls who will soon he seeking useful and productive employment. The occupations of all these girls, and a hundred thousand other workers in our manufacturing industries, are dependent entirely on our buying what they make. If you prefer to keep the workers of other countries busy, it means unemployment and misery for our own. That is why a made-in-New Zealand gift is the finest gift of all. It spreads the greatest amount of happiness.
