WESTERN ELECTRIC IS ON THE JOB NEW APPARATUS RUSHED By rushing apparatus from Wellington to Hawera to remedy a defect in a theatre installation, Western Electric (N.Z.) Corporation Limited, has maintained its reputation for service at short notice. TN the Opera House, Hawera, recently The blowing out of a transformer threatened to postpone the opening of “The Donovan Affair,” a talkie mystery. That afternoon an urgent call was put through to Western Electric’s headquarters at Wellington and it was decided to send a new transformer by air. Within 45 minutes of the telephone call from the small centre, Captain Gibbons of Hamilton Airways Limited, hopped off from Miramar with Mr. W. G. Leatliam of the Western Electric staff. An hour later Hawera was advised that the airplane was due, and several . officials of the Aero Club motored out to the landing place. Descending in a wide circle the D. H. Gipsy Moth made a perfect landing and drew to a standstill within 100 yards. “We had a splendid trip,” said Captain Gibbons, as lie unbuckled his safety belt and climbed from the cockpit. “Yes,” remarked Mr. Leatham, “apart from one or two rain squalls the weather was ideal and the journey up the coast was delightful.” He added that when passing over Hawera the ’plane struck a few air pockets, and the going was somewhat bumpy.
