WHAT TO OFFER?
WIFE WOULD NOT COME TO NEW ZEALAND ORDER TO RETURN “What has New Zealand to offer me?” wrote Evelyn L. Shepard from Sydney to her husband, Arthur Robert G. O. Shepard, living in New Zealand. in response to his appeal to join him here. Shepard (Mr. Singer) gave this evidence before Mr. Justice Blair in the Supreme Court yesterday afternoon in support of his. application for an order for restitution of conjugal rights against his wife. Married in Sydney in July, 1923, petitioner said that when he came to live in New Zealand his wife refused to join him. He travelled a good deal, but spent most of his time in the Dominion. When he secured a permanent job here in January, 1928, his wife arranged to follow him two or three weeks later, but she did not do so, and he could not induce her to change her mind. He added that his wife had means and her home and friends were in Sydney. Mr. Singer mentioned that the wife had come over from Sydney to see him, as the husband’s solicitor, and returned three days later without seeing her husband. There was no hope of reconciliation. An order was made requiring the wife to return to her husband in 42 days.
