VALUES FIRM AT FINISH United I*.A.—By Telegraph—Copyright LONDON, Thursday. The wool sales closed with a firm tone. Today’s offerings were 11.95 S bales, of which 4.>42 were from New Zealand. All descriptions realised full recent rates, but withdrawals were numerous, owing to the holders’ him Units. New Zealand rrossbreds again sold readily, mostly to Yorkshire. Best sreasy halfbreds made lid. and fine lialfbred stipe lambs, CMC He 1 ipse. 19£d. The total catalogued for the series was 125.800 balesj of which 109,000 were sold. Tin- Continent took about 62,000, and the home trade nearly all the remainder. The Australian wool sold amounted to 59,5 *0 bales, and New Zealand to 35,000. 17,800 bales being held The catalogues include a capital selection of new clip Merinos. for which French buyers. particularly Alsatians. . ompeted keenly. The Germans were more reserved than usual, but showed increasing interest as the sales progressed. The bulk of the crossbred offerings consisted of slipes. which went chiefly to the home trade. Prices compared with the October closing show that Merinos ami all good combings generally advanced 7} to 10 per cent., and broader and lighter sorts, which were chiefly sold to Yorkshire. 10 per cent. Scoureds improved thi'oughout. closing 10 per cent. up. Crossbreds and greasies and a limited supply of halfbreds were 7} per cent, higher, while mediums and low qualities firmed 10 per cent. Slipes. which formed the bulk of the New’ Zealand offerings, were generally firm throughout, but fine halfbreds and threequarter-breds were from par to 5 per cent, easier, while lambs advanced 5 ner cent. The next auction sales will begin on January 21.
