Applying the principles of house* hold accounting to the £766,000,000 Budget of the Federal Government for 1931, President Hoover has calculated that approximately 72 per cent, of the total expenditures -will go to national defence and the fiscal burdens of the past wars. Only eight per cent, of the Budget Estimates will be required, according to the President, for normal departmental and Governmental functions, including £10,000,000 for the postal deficit.
