DANGEROUSLY ILL

PRAYERS FOR BISHOP CLEARY

ANXIETY IN DIOCESE Great anxiety is being caused by the protracted, dangerous illness of the Rt. Rev, Dr. H. W. Cleary, Bishop of Auckland. The last sacrament of the Roman Catholic Church was administered yesterday afternoon by Bishop Liston, who was assisted by Monsignor Cahill. This morning, at 5 o’clock, Bishop Cleary became unconscious and his condition late today has not changed. In the Catholic churches of the diocese, prayers are being offered for Bishop Cleary’s recovery. Bishop Cleary has been in his position as bishop since 1910. An extensive tour of the East Coasf which Bishop Cleary undertook last month seriously affected his health. This was further impaired by a severe attack of influenza and overstrain.
