First grade factory butter brings 1s 8d a lb in the shops; in the markets, farmers’ butter sells at 1s to 1s 4d. Across the shop counters, forequarter of lamb now sells at 1s a lb; hindquarters, 1s 2d; leg, 1s 4d; loin, 1s 2d; leg of pork, 1s; loin, 1s 1d; pork chops, 1s 2d; pork sausages, 8d; leg of mutton, 9d; shoulder and neck, forequarter, 7d; hindquarter, 9d; loin, 10d; leg and loin chops, 11d; trimmed cutlets, 1s 1d; beef sirloin, 10d; rump steak, Is 2d; tripe, roiled chuck, rib, topside and prime rib, 7d; dripping and sausages, 6d; corned round, 8d; veal cutlets and steak, 1s; loin, 9d. Whole schnapper sells at 6d a lb; terakihi, 4d; mullet, 6d; hapuka steaks, 1s 2d; terakihi, fresh fillets, 7ad; schnapper, 10d; John Dory, 8d: and lemon fish, 6d. Cucumbers, in the marts, sell at 2s to 8s a dozen; lettuces, 1s 6d to 5s 6d a case; new potatoes, 3s 6d to 5s a bag; beans, 7d to 1s a lb; green peas, to 5d a lb; spring onions, 3d to 1s a bundle; cabbages, 2s to 3s a dozen; cauliflowers, 3s to 8s a dozen; pumpkins, 2s to 4s each; marrows, 3s to 6s 6d each; carrots, beet, turnips and parsnips, 1s 3d to 1s 9d a dozen.
