DISASTROUS FlßM.—Fire at the ham and bacon factory of J. C. Hutat Preston, six miles from Melbourne, destroyed a large packing room •Tfid its contents. The loss is estimated at £50,000. Mr. Ramsay MacDonald, was disked in the House of Commons Whether, in view of the fact that £IOO.OOO had been collected from •*O.OOO subscribers to the Imperial League of Opera, the Government intended to give assistance in establishing national opera. While expressing his warmest sympathy with the aims the Opera League, the Prime Minuter said he regretted he could not Promise it a grant from public funds.
