THE DEVOTED LOVER

Dear Miss Rutledge,— r am madly in love with a girl in our district, but although receiving encouragement from her, I cannot lorce a definite answer from her as regards her matrimonial ideas. 1 am most anxious to marry and have a home and children. I sometimes take her to a dance, but she usually goes home with someone else, which strikes me as hardly fair. I simply worship the ground she walks on, and don’t know how I could manage without her. I know that she goes out with other fellows, but that would not trouble me so much if I were sure that she would marry me and settle down. She tells me she likes me more than anybody else. Kimily help me in the matter. LOVER. AXSWER Actions speak louder than words, and it would appear that there is much ground to cover before you can seriously enterfa in thoughts of chartering the good ship Matrimony. It is only common courtesy on the part of a girl to return home from a. dance in the company of her escort, unless special circumstances dictate otherwise. If vour friend is fond of you. surely she would act accordingly. Perhaps you throw your affections too much under her nose, and this policy is | not always appreciated. Why not try j the cooling-off process for a while and I test Her reaction. A little independence j and backbone, dished up with a polite bearing, might find a vulnerable spot, j When your friend finds that you are not ] to be trifled with, she may respect you j more. If her love for you is genuine, the inevitable will happen, while, on the j other hand, should there be no real love ' for you in her heart, take my advice and ! just obliterate her from your mind. Hard work and interesting books are recoin- i mended. ANNE RUTLEDGE. I
