PERSONAL.—Captain J. L. Brisco is joining the Koranui at Sydney this week, relieving Captain R. Huntly for holidays. Captain W. J. S. Eyre is taking command of the Kamo at Sydney this week, relieving Captain J. Stewart for holidays. Captain A. F. Inman is being appointed to the Kowhai at Melbourne this week, relieving Captain E. J. C. Gibson for instructions. Mr. R. D. Brebner joined the Kamona as chief officer yesterday, vice Mr. A. B. Anderson, who has resigned from the company’s service. Mr. C. H. George has relieved Mr. J. A. Pearson as chief officer of the Katoa. Mr. L. G. Ramsay is rejoining the Kiwitea as chief officer, relieving Mr. T. A. McPherson for further orders. Mr. G. M. Schofield has been appointed second officer of the Ngatorq. Captain J. Bruce arrived by the Marama at Wellington on Tuesday from Sydney on holiday leave. WAI PAH t RETURNING. —The local office of the Union Company has been advised that the Island fruit steamer Waipahi leaves Suva at 5 p.m. today on her return trip to Auckland, where she is due next Tuesday. From this port the vessel proceeds to Lyttelton direct and Dunedin. GOLDEN CROSS COMING. Henderson and Macfarlane, advises that the Oceanic and Oriental Navigation Company’s Golden Cross left Los Angeles on November 30 with Pacific Coast cargo for discharge at Auckland, Wellington and Lyttelton. The vessel is due at Auckland on December 26. MOERAKI SAILING.—Her overhaul completed, the Union Company’s steamer Moeraki sails today for Sydney, where she will re-enter the Sydney-Fiji service, leaving Sydney on December 13. No passengers or cargo is to be taken by the Moeraki from Auckland, as the Maunganui will he leaving at midnight I tomorrow for Sydney.

RANGITIKI FOR HOME. —\ow filling UP at Wellington, the New Zealand Shipping Company's motor-ship Rangitiki leaves there at 3 p.m. on Saturday with passengers, mails, and cargo for Southampton and London, via Panama. BEULAH COMING. —En route from San Francisco to Auckland and Wellington, via Pacific Islands, with a cargo of .lumber, the motor-schooner Beulah is expected to reach this port on Monday from Nukualofa. A. G. Frankham, Ltd., is the local agent. TOFU A AT SUVA.—Cable advice received by the local office of the Union Company states that the Island passenger steamer Tofua arrived at Suva at 6.30 p.m. yesterday from Auckland, and leaves again on Saturday for Tonga and Samoa. TAHITI LEAVES ’FRISCO.—Advice received by the Union Company states that the R.SI\S. Tahiti left San Francisco at 9 p.m. on Wednesday, November 27, for Wellington and Sydney, via usual ports. She is due at Wellington on December 16, and at Sydney on December 21. PORT HOBART TO COMPLETE. — Leaving Wanganui tonight for Auckland, the C. and D. Line’s motor-ship Port Hobart is due here on Sunday to complete her loading under the agency of the Farmers’ Co-op. Auctioneering Company. It is hoped to dispatch the vessel finally from here on December 11 for London, via Panama. CANADIAN TRANSPORTER SAILS TODAY. —The local office of the Canadian National Steamships advises that the Canadian Transporter, now completing her loading for New York, Boston and Halifax at Prince’s Wharf, is to sail this afternoon for those ports, as soon as the weather permits loading to be finished. lONIC AT NAPIER.—Due at Napier today from Wellington, the White Star linet* lonic is expected at Auckland on Sunday to complete her loading under the auspices of L. D. Nathan and Company. She is scheduled to sail finally from this port at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, December 11, for Southampton and Lon- , don, via Panama. RIMUTAKA AND REMUERA REPORTED.—Advice has been received by the New Zealand Shipping Company that the Rimutaka, en route from London and Southampton, arrived at Colon and sailed from Panama on December 3 for Wellington, where she is due on Christmas Eve. Also the Remuera, Homewardbound from New Zealand, arrived at Panama on December 3. CANADIAN CONQUEROR REPORTS. —A radio message has been received at the local office of the Canadian National Steamships from the Canadian Conqueror, inward bound from Halifax, that she expects to reach Auckland on December 12. The vessel has a cargo of general Eastern Canadian merchandise for discharge at Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton, Timaru and Dunedin.

RUAHINE AT WELLINGTON.—Advice received by the local office of the New Zealand Shipping Company states that the liner Ruahine arrived at Wellington at five o’clock this morning from London and Southampton, and berthed at 9 a.m. Passengers for Auckland leave by the two o’clock train this afternoon, and the luggage comes forward by the Waipiata tomorrow. From Wellington the Ruahine proceeds to Lyttelton, Port Chalmers, and Timaru to complete her discharge of cargo. PARRACOMBE ARRIVES.—An arrival at Auckland yesterday afternoon was the steamer Parracombe from' Quebec with a cargo for discharge at this port, Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Geelong and Adelaide./" She was berthed at the Prince’s Wharf to unload the local portion of her cargo under the agency of the New Zealand Shipping Company. Fine weather throughout was experienced by the vessel, the voyage being uneventful. Captain J. J. Hall is in command of the vessel, and he has associated with him the following officers:—Chief, Mr. L. Stom; second, Mr. J. Eady; third, Mr. J. E. Wilson; chief engineer, Mr. W. A. The Merchant Service Guild is about to institute negotiations with the owners of the smaller coastal steamers with a view to arranging for a new agreement with certain improved conditions for the officers of such vessels. The existing agreement expired several months ago. but has remained in operation pending a new agreement being arrived at. The guild will seek the inclusion of a clause providing for an eight-hour day with payment for all overtime irrespective of the amount. At present the mates in the smaller coastal steamers in which two mates are carried receive extra payment for all time in excess of 10 hours a day, and in vessels carrying one mate all work in excess of 60 hours a week is paid for as overtime. Pt is understood that the shipowners’ concerned are desirous of limiting the amount of overtime paid to mates as in the present case of the engineers on vessels where two engineers are employed. These engineers are required to work 10 hours daily before they are entitled to overtime payment, and in no case is overtime payment made of sums of more than 10 per cent, of these engineers’ monthly salary.
