NEW REGENT

LAST DAYS OF “THE COCOANUTS”

Harpo Marx is the one player in talking pictures who is fearless before the microphone, because, as has been his habit during his past twelve years on the stage, he always remains silent. Harpo is the red-wigged unit of the Four Marx Brothers who made their stage play, “The Cocoanuts,” into a moving picture. The Four Marx Brothers, Groucho, Harpo. Chico and Zeppo, are veterans of the stage. They have steadily built up a reputation as Broadway’s most famous and maddest comedians, and are starred in the Paramount all-talk-ing, singing and dancing musical comedy, “The Cocoanuts,” which is now drawing to the close of its long season at the New Regent Theatre. The Regent programme is also en- , riched with several entertaining talkie featurettes. On Saturday the Regent will present an entirely’ new programme, which will be headed by the all-talking attraction, “The Dance of Life.” Hal Skelly, well known on Broadway’, was signed to play the lead in this picture, a role which he created, with success, on the stage. Skelly will be seen in several forthcoming Paramount pictures. Nancy Carroll, popular star, play’s Bonnie, the faithful little trouper who sticks to Skid throughout the ups and downs of life. Miss Carroll is one of the most popular stars on the screen today. Following “Close Harmony” and “Abie’s Irish Rose,” Miss Carroll has appeared in a number of singing and talking as as silent pictures, each of which has increased her following. Heading the supporting cast is Dorothy Revier, well known screen player, who plays an excellent role. Al St. John and Charles Brown are other well known screen players. The rest of the cast has been selected from well known stage play’ers.

A special atraction at the Regent from tomorrow evening will be the appearance of Mr. Whiteford-Waugh’s orchestra, of individual soloists, featuring Ray’ Jury on the xylophone.
